So its official, we now have a date for ” Girl Monster; Viva La Craft” 29th January, 2009 at kampnagel Theatre, Hamburg. This is an image Kathi Glas and I concepted together over the phone for VIVA LA CRAFT @ Craft Victoria, with Kathi then going away and creating it with her magical sewing machine in Berlin. Viva La Craft in Hamburg will be curated by Kathi and I. We’re hoping to get some special guests over from the fields of ol school craft and artists working with new technologies. We’ll post more on this once we know who’s coming, plus i’ll include some of our influences and inspirations…..More on the exhibition VIVA LA CRAFT at Craft Victoria, Australia as part of Loreal Melbourne Fashion festival soon.

Jane Adams – cultural Feminism and sociological ideas

Manuela Sosa and I started on our lamp project by creating a welded metal skeletal structure, covered by digitally printed fabrics that Melissa and I designed for our collaboration with Insight; a collection of women’s surf wear, to be released beginning of December, Insight sent us this whole roll of fabric for our art projects.  The lamp should resemble a Chinese paper lantern. For now this is just a prototype, i’d like to continue to find out how to turn the lamp into something more flexible and portable, researching into different materials and means of production. This lamp took ages, with a load of hand sewing etc and thanks to Kathi Glas’s extreme pattern making skills, she helped us to get the perfect fit of the fabric to the lamp’s structure.

Lamp 90 cm diameter

We’re going to make this lamp part of the Objektifications series by COS, an ongoing research trip into the worlds of Arts, crafts and homewares.
